It’s clear from the pages of the Norwich Times that Norwich youth have covered the world through trips, jobs, and adventures of all sorts. This coverage includes Washington, DC, where Norwich is well represented in many government offices. Consider three recent Hanover High School graduates who currently work or recently held an internship in the office of one of our Vermont congressional members, Senator Bernie Sanders. What inspired these recent graduates to work in the Senate and move from Vermont to Washington DC, and what have their experiences been working as civil servants in DC?… Read More

Are Vermont Bats Back?

September 11, 2019 by The Norwich Times No Comments

Vermont is home to nine species of bats. Six of these species are year round residents and three migrate south in the winter. Our six year-long residents live in caves and mines during the winter and during summer months can often be found roosting in barns and other buildings. Of the 6 resident species all but one are either state or federally endangered.

Little brown and long-eared bats are the ones we are most likely to see in Norwich during the summer months from mid-April to October. They have been a part of our summer landscape as long as we can remember, swooping over fields and ponds tirelessly hunting the night flying insects that make up their diet.… Read More

June 10, 2018 by The Norwich Times No Comments

Editor’s Note: For a few years now, the Norwich Times has been featuring our young people thinking, doing, and living outside the box. Rather than follow the traditional four-years-of-high-school on to four-years-of-college route, these adventurous souls are recognizing that there are many paths, and that some may lead to a whole new world to explore. Read about Abby Dole, Maisie MacMillen, and Cleo Roback as they tell us about their exciting and humbling travels to distant lands.

February 8, 2018 by The Norwich Times No Comments
Jamie Kenyon

When you live in a small town, it’s all about community – and when you work in a small-town bank, you’d better love the idea of community. That’s what makes the Norwich branch of Mascoma Savings Bank a great match for Jamie Kenyon. “I’ve been in banking for the past seven and a half years, but just came to Mascoma in August.” Jamie explains, “I think my favorite part of my job has been the friendly atmosphere in town, and in our branch. Meet Your Neighbor: Din Seaver, New Boston Road

January 29, 2018 by The Norwich Times No Comments

What brought you to Norwich?
The succinct answer is that the Hanover/Norwich area was recommended when we were deciding to move from California back to the northeast.

What’s your favorite hang out in Norwich?
I’m kind of a homebody, so I’d have to say our black armchair where I start each day drinking coffee, reading the Valley News, poring over – and sometimes responding to – the listserv. But, if I’m out and about, the most likely places to find me are Dan & Whit’s, the dump, the library, or the MCS or Huntley playgrounds.
